You Went WHERE For the 4th of July?!

We got the same response from everyone when we told them -
even the people in the old Steel Town couldn't understand what
we were doing there when we didn't even have family in the
area.

What we discovered, however, is that Pittsburgh really should
be on everyone's destination list.  Much like New York, San
Francisco or Chicago, it's rich with history, breathtakingly
beautiful, the people are warm and friendly and there is so
much to do!

Having Fun In Pittsburgh
The Allegheny River
This breath taking shot was taken from the vista of Mt.
Washington, so named because right below, George
Washington, then 21 almost died trying to cross the
Allegheny when his tiny raft capsized.  He and his mate
spent a very cold and wet night on the banks.  So cold in
fact, that the next morning the river had frozen and they
walked to the other side!
Did You Know The First Industry Was Glass?
Neither did we until we took a tour and found
that though the steel industry has long since
left, glass is still made here.  This is the
building that houses the largest glass maker
in the country.  It was built to resemble the
Houses of Parliament in London.
The Roberto Clemente Bridge
Named for the Pittsburgh pirate who tragically died in a
plane crash, this gorgeous bridge rather fittingly leads
right over the river to the front of the new PNC ball park.
Sunset Anywhere Is Gorgeous
But a sun setting over water is nothing short of
spectacular.  Brent stands with the Roberto Clemente
Bridge behind him and downtown Pittsburgh behind him.
The William Penn
This historic hotel has been restored to its former glory -
and we do mean glory (see the photo of the lobby to the
left,) by the Omni Hotel chain.  Here we were upgraded
(why we don't know, but we certainly weren't going to ask)
to a mini suite that had a gorgeous view of downtown and
the Allegheny River.
Those Tiny Bubbles
Lawrence Welke got his start in this beautiful hotel and
his first bubble machine still stands in the Grand
Ballroom!   Not only that, a certain "relatively well known"
comedian by the name of Bob Hope proposed to his wife
Deloras in the hotel's five star restaurant.
