In And About Town
Contrary to popular belief, there is a lot to do and see in
Pittsburgh. Some of the fun things we managed to squeeze in
were an amphibious tour in an old World War II vehicle, visit the
Sports Center Museum where we proved that you can spin up
side down repeatedly and not get sick, and ventured up Mt.
Washington on an "incline," which is basically an out door
elevator built into the mountain by the German people who
settled here in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

Everywhere we went we tried to buy post
cards to send to the grandparents who don't
have the benefit of being on-line.

The Love Boat
This vehicle/vessel actually saw action on D-Day. As our
guide pointed out, they moved so slowly, they really were,
"sitting ducks." Ouch on the bad pun!

Kate went first on this "whirligig" that kept your
stomach in one place as you spun it in all
direction with your body weight, thus you didn't
get sick, like you do on a roller coaster for
instance. It was a blast!

Our tour guide and our driver/captain were both
knowledgeable and fun with great senses of humor. We
heard every bad duck-pun you can possibly imagine but it
only served to add to the tour.

just how fast Brent got this thing going. Every
one was impressed as he spun it around like

Those Ingenious Germans
Before the German immigrants came to Pittsburgh the
city was confined to the banks of the rivers. However,
with them, they brought the engineering from their
homeland and basically created a sort of "subway" above
ground. We saw these on our honeymoon in
Switzerland.

The car two cars work on a pulley system and
are held to the track by a thick cable - which
when they were initially made, was just a rope.
