Kate's Home Town
One of the reasons to go to Minnesota and the area was to see
where Kate was born and grew up for her first 8 years. The
Petries ended up in Rochester, Minnesota, a little town about
90 miles from Minneapolis, because her father got an
internship at the Mayo Clinic. The family moved to California in
1978 but Kate's brother Russ returned when he went to
medical school.
The town has changed very little since Kate left and it was easy
for her to get around - even still. We hit the "important sites"
including the house she came home to, the house she grew
up in, her nursery school and elementary school even the little
store where she and her brothers bought candy.
The Infamous Corn Water Tower Of The City
This is one of the "landmarks" Kate remembered
specifically and we had to stop just to get a picture!
