Walt Disney's Inspiration

This authentic old fashioned Carousel has been at Griffith Park
since the 1920's. Walt Disney used to take his daughters to
this Carousel and was inspired to build Disneyland because
he felt that there weren't enough kids-oriented places in
Southern California.  All of his parks have a Carousel right at
their centers.
Carousel Organ
This refurbished organ sounds like a carnival all by itself -
it runs on scrolls like player pianos do.
Tucked Away
Neither of us even knew it had existed, even
though we grew up in So. Cal.
The Original Wooden Horses
Kate is all saddled up and ready to go.
You Whipping It Into Shape
Believe it or not Brent didn't need to
encourage the horse, this Carousel booked!
Even the Ceiling Is Ornate
As the crowd find their horses we take time to
admire the detail of the ride.
The Canopy Is The Most Ornate Of All
It's all the original paint, so though there are places where
it's a bit chipped, it's still quite spectacular.
Retired Horses
Some of the older horses are on display next
to the organ.
Carving Details Are Truly Impressive
It's worth it to take a moment to admire the
artistry.
Real Horse Hair Tails
It's one of the oldest original Carousels in the country - not
many have real horse-hair tails anymore.
