New Year's In Wisconsin - Brrrrr!

As is our tradition we headed out of town for New Year's.
This year Brent's idea was to do the Wisconsin Dells so that
we could catch another water park - a Great Wolf Lodge - and
get Sawyer on skis for the first time.  Kate was skeptical of
the intelligence of the idea given it would be Wisconsin in
January - the depth of winter, but off we went.

Well, we had a great day on skis.  It was pretty cold (hi of 21)
but it was beautifully sunny the day we went.  Sawyer had a
bit of a hard time at first, as most do, but within a few hours
he was going down the slope and insisting he didn't need
any help - which he certainly didn't.  His skating came in
handy - he was balanced and had a great time  His only
disappointment was he really wanted poles.  We eventually
let him play with them but it was even more frustrating when
he couldn't figure out what to do with them once he had them.
You gotta love being four.

Sawyer and dad had a fantastic time at the water park - there
are few things more fun than water slides - regardless of
one's age - it was a great choice.  Otherwise the area was
pretty dead - it is really geared to summer fun and all but one
other water park is outside - but wow do they have a lot of
elaborate places there.  Reminded us of a water-park
themed Pigeon Forge.

Snow is a novelty to Sawyer - but he quickly realized it was
fun but it was blooming cold as well and it hurt when it got on
one's hands.

The last day we were there taking pictures at the capital the
high was 6 degrees - that will get your attention.  When we
got back to Texas and it was 40 degrees out, the place felt
positively balmy!
