New Year's Visiting Destin, FL; Mobile, AL; Biloxi, MS and
New Orleans, LA
We made our annual New Year's Eve trip - this time we
ventured south and east, catching four states (three new
ones for Sawyer) and loads of fun in the process.
First we played on the beach in Destin, Florida - our little man
whose parents are from California had yet to play in the
sand. He took to it just like a South African/Southern
Californian - must be in his blood. Before we could look side
ways he was waded into the water all the way up to his chest
- needless to say we should have dressed him in his bathing
suit and brought a change of clothes to the beach. Think he
was cold as the sun went down? No way! All he wanted to
do was build sand castles with Daddy and run back and forth
from the surf.
On our way through Alabama, we stopped at the USS
Alabama for a tour. There are few things more fun for a little
boy than a big ship - or at least any big vehicle - and a battle
ship certainly did not disappoint.
Finally we ended up in New Orleans where we visited the
factory that makes the Mardi Gras floats and we found how
many are actually repurposed and rebuilt every year.
Best of all was the Drew Brees jersey we bought him - which
he insisted on wearing. Immediately, our little guy became
an instant celebrity - there are few things that rile that town up
more than a three year old dressed as the local hero - there
were several high fives from perfect strangers - right down to
when he walked down the aisle on the plane! Sawyer ate it
up.
