New Hockey Gear
The big story of the week was we finally broke down and
went and got Sawyer his own skates, helmet and gloves. We
were urged to get him at least a helmet by Kate's brothers
who explained that little people tend to just fall backwards -
especially when they go to hockey skates that have a shorter
and curved blade - there is nothing to catch them if they lean
back just a bit.
Unfortunately we got the gear on Sunday afternoon and we
will be away next weekend so it will be almost two weeks
before he'll be able to check out his new skates, but we are
sure the rest of the gear will be well worn in by then.
The gentleman who helped Sawyer choose his helmet and
fit him for his skates is actually a semi-pro hockey player who
actually played for the Anaheim Ducks for all of 4 months a
few years ago.
Sawyer was so enthralled with his gear that he insisted on
sleeping with it - all week long! Mom removed the helmet
with its metal face mask after he fell asleep as it is a bit
scratchy around the edges...
Otherwise we discovered that the lady who first cut Sawyer's
hair, who no longer works at Cool Cuts now has her own
shop and it's right in the same building where Sawyer takes
swim lessons, so we took the opportunity to get his hair cut
ahead of his birthday in just a few weeks.
