Cousins, Swimming and Hockey, Hockey, Hockey!
The weekend began with being in Southern California - our
continued trip. Sawyer had a great time with Brent's parents
earlier in the week and then over the weekend the three of us
went and stayed at Kate's parents' place. This afforded
Sawyer the opportunity to play with his Petrie cousins.
Saturday Sawyer showed off his newly-found confidence in
the pool by jumping in without any hesitation and evening
being launched into the air by Brent. Brent, Sawyer, Aidan,
Gracie and Graham all had a great time swimming at the
Petrie kids' home (Erle and Margie's house.) But before we
got to the pool, Sawyer watched his cousin Aidan practice
hockey - about 6 minutes of watching his cousin has turned
into a non-stop hockey obsession. We are convinced that
Sawyer used the human race's quota for the word "hockey"
on Monday evening alone.
He is so crazy for hockey that his now sleeps every night with
both his hockey stick and his "hockey helmet" - which is his
bike helmet - but we're not telling.
He was so head over heels that Brent got on the phone on
Monday to find out about skating programs at the Grapevine
Mills Mall. We learned that he couldn't start group lessons
until aged 3 - and the next session starts on October 1st - we
think we're just going to lie and tell them he's 3 already - it's
only 9 days after all.
In the meantime, we realized there was no way we'd make it
more than a month. So Mom took him skating on Friday
night - he was pretty spooked by the whole thing but we can
hardly blame him - we went during "Laser Skate Night." Brent
and Kate were both looking for roller skates and waiting for
Xanadu to come on!
