Unusual Experience In The Middle Of Nowhere

In the far northeastern corner of Bucks County lies this small
park called Ringing Rocks. No one could tell me anything
about it (even the folks at the visitors center which had lived in
the area their whole lives), but the extra drive was well worth it.
The tone these huge boulders make was just incredible. I
stayed here about 45 minutes just climbing and hitting away on
each rock.

This bare, four-acre field of rocks was formed over millions of
years by slow erosion. Composed mainly of labrodite and
augite (a dark compound mostly of iron and alumina.) The
interlaced networks of crystals in the stone develop and
transmit sound waves when struck with a hammer.
Climbing This Area of Special Rocks
It was a blast to climb over this small area of boulders and
hear the tone each could produce by striking it.
The Ringing Rocks
You can see the white areas on each rock where people
have been hammering to hear each tone.
