3, 2, 1, We Have Lift Off
Four days after our visit, the space shuttle Atlantis launched for
its mission to install an international lab at the space station.
The shuttle sits on the launch site 2 weeks prior to launch, so
we got to get as close as you can get to the space shuttle
without being part of NASA or an astronaut.
Launch Sites In The Distance
We took a tour of the Kennedy Space Center and got
up-close views of launch sites and the Apollo Control
Room.
Shuttle Atlantis On The Launch Pad
Shuttle Atlantis is ready to launch in four more days.
Brent And Kate With Shuttle Atlantis Behind
If we were standing here on launch day, we would be
killed by the sound alone being this close.

The World's Largest American Flag
The blue field on this flag is as big as a
basketball court.
The Space Shuttle With Its Water Tank
The water tower next to the space shuttle is used to
reduce the noise and sonic boom created at launch.
Most Of The Area Is A Nature Preserve
We saw a number of gators which were almost more
exciting than seeing the shuttle.
Our Tour Bus
The Kennedy Space Center is huge as it took us over
three hours just to tour the three main areas we saw..
