Quack, Quack!

We stayed at the famous Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis
where we had the opportunity to watch the March of the Ducks!

Apparently, in the 1930's, when it was still legal to use live decoys,
a couple of duck hunters who were a bit inebriated on good
old-fashioned Jack Daniel's decided to leave their decoy ducks in
the fountain in the Peabody's grand lobby.  The next morning, they
were shocked not only to find the ducks were still there, but a huge
crowd had gathered around the birds.

The Peabody recognized a good marketing stunt when they saw
one and promptly hired P.T. Barnum's animal trainer to teach five
ducks to get into the hotel's elevator at 11:00 a.m. every morning
and ride down, exit, walk a red carpet and climb into the fountain.
Then at 5:00 p.m. the ducks do the reverse and ride the elevator to
their penthouse suite.  The tradition has been going on for the last
70 years and it's adorable!
