Jungle Fever Is Upon Us

One of the Mr. McIlhenny's grandson's was a naturalist and when
he discovered that modern "progress" was endangering the
existence of the Snowy Egret, he convinced his brothers to
dedicate a large portion of Avery Island to the bird's conservation.

Today, the Snowy Egret is no longer on the endangered species
list and hundreds of them can usually be seen when exploring this
garden, (known as "The Jungle," because of its unusual tress that
truly have a prehistoric quality) - unfortunately for us, the rain
storms made the birds take cover.  We should have done that too!
