Only In Texas
After having driven by this museum on several occasions on
our way to and from Houston, we finally decided to quench our
curiosity and stop - or at least we decided to satisfy Kate's
bizarre interest in prisons in general. After having developed
the script about the infamous Texas Seven - seven men who
broke out of the Huntsville facility and were on the run for over a
month - she'd wanted to see what was inside.
It was a hoot to go to, but there really wasn't that much here.
Perhaps the oddest part was a video we had thought would be
informational, but the eight minutes were more like an
advertisement for the Texas penal system than an historical
portrait.
The Prison
The infamous Huntsville prison can be seen in the
background.
Old Smokey
Hey, we didn't give it this moniker...
The Guard Tower
At the entrance to the museum a fake guard tower,
complete with a dummy guard, looms large.
