Hangin' With The Tribe
The Navaho Indian Tribe owns all the land in Monument Valley
and runs the Visitors' Center and as a result everything in the
area has a native American feel - that is, except of course for
the huge bill boards pointing out where John Wayne stayed
when he was filming Stagecoach for John Ford.
All the rocks have names - some of which are easy to
understand - others not so much, but it was truly a spectacular
place to visit.
At The Visitors' Center
Kate used a bit of French in order to ask a
tourist from France to take our photo.
The Visitors' Center
Where we had a rather memorable meal - not
for the food, mind you, but the view was
unbelievable.
The Mittens
Uh...it's not exactly difficult to see why these two formations
are named just that. They are almost the exact same siaze
and even face each other - it's quite remarkable.
Three Sisters
That's what this one's called...we thought (G) "Dubbya"
ourselves...but maybe that says more about the fact that we
live in Texas now.
The Dunes
The red soil is really quite amazing. On the way back we
were caught in a rain storm and it created a torrent of a red
river - like nothing either of us had ever seen.
