On The Green Table

Mesa Verde is a national forest located just about 45 minutes
from Durango.  We were advised that we needed to take a
proper guided-tour in order to see the ruins of the primitive
people that once inhabited the area from 500 to 1300 AD. That
didn't turn out to be exactly the case, but we did enjoy not having
to do the whole drive ourselves and though our guide was a bit
verbose at times, what she lacked in editing skills she more
than made up for in enthusiasm for her subject.

Not only that, her tour really took us through the lives of these
people in a chronological way we probably would not have
been able to do ourselves. Regardless,if you ever find yourself
in the region, this is definitely a must see.

Here Comes The Rain
We managed to get the "correct" weather the whole time
we were there - essentially, it rained whenever we were
either inside a car or a dwelling - gotta love that luck.
Yet Another Spectacular View
The "Mesa" is of course a plateau that affords
amazing views of the area around it..
Difficult Terrain
It was finally a drought that was the demise of the more
than 5,000 people that once populated this area. It's not
difficult to see how a drought would utterly decimate a
group of people unable to control water in a sophisticated
way.
