A very short trail from a parking area off of Highway 117 leads
to the base of an enormous natural arch eroded out of the
surrounding sandstone cliffs. La Ventana Natural Arch is the
largest natural arch in New Mexico.

Of course we wanted to climb up inside the arch, but we

in the El Malpais area as it was.
